9 Best Spots For Studying This Summer

By Jessi Stickel on June 5, 2016

Whether you are taking a summer course or two, doing some summer reading, or just keeping your brain fresh over break, you are going to need good study spots. However, you don’t want to just pick the usual spots like your desk indoors; it’s summer, enjoy the outdoors!

Here are the best spots for studying during the summer, on and off campus.

1. University mall

The mall on your school’s campus is a perfect place to read, do assignments or study. You get to have peace and quiet, since there will be few people on campus during the summer. You also get to enjoy a beautiful view and fresh air.

2. Picnic tables

Picnic tables are all over most campuses, so you can pretty much pick any place where you want to study, whether it is in the shade or sun. Having a table to use while studying can be easier than sitting in the grass or on a bench; this way you can be comfortable while using your laptop and/or textbooks.

3. The pool

Many campuses have outdoor pools for student use during the summer. If you choose to study by the pool, you can have the best of both worlds; you feel like you are being productive while being in a relaxing environment. You can also work on your tan while getting your study on. You can choose from tables under the umbrella or a lounge chair, whichever you are feeling in the mood for.

4. Uncrowded library

For those extra hot and humid days outside, you can take advantage of the many open seats and tables at the library. Sometimes you just need to be in the nice cool air when it is too hot to sit outside; you can also resort to the library when it is raining outside.

1. Local park

If you feel as if you can’t focus or get anything done at home, walk or drive to a local park. You can enjoy nature while also having a quiet atmosphere, allowing you to do your best work. The park is also a great place to do some summer reading as well; just find a shady spot under a tree and you are set.

2. Your own or community pool

Again, the pool is a relaxing place to study, read or do assignments. If you are home for the summer and have a pool of your own, you have a great study spot available to you 24/7. You can also go to a community pool, but make sure it is not too crowded because community pools can get pretty noisy at times.

3. Front lawn

Sometimes all you need to do is grab a blanket or towel and sit in your front lawn to get some studying and reading done. This is an easy way to enjoy the sun and weather, while still being productive. You also don’t have to walk or drive anywhere, making it extremely convenient.

4. Local coffee shop’s outdoor seating

If you feel like you need to get out of the house to get some motivation, head to a local Starbucks or another coffee shop that has outdoor seating. You can get your coffee fix, use the free wifi and enjoy the warm weather while you are studying for class or reading for pleasure.

5. The beach

If you are going on a week vacation or just a weekend getaway to the beach, you have the perfect spot to get your reading and studying done. Many people read on the beach to soak up the sun and enjoy the view. I couldn’t think of a better noise to hear while reading than the sound of waves crashing on the shore.
