25 Things That Are More Fun Than Looking For Jobs
For those of you who are looking for jobs or thinking about embarking on the job hunt, you know that searching for jobs to apply to is a daunting and often discouraging endeavor.
Looking for jobs consists of spending hours combing through positions, reading descriptions and qualifications, comparing your experiences to those desired by the employer, and finally, sometimes sending your resume in for consideration — all of which is not fun, and I can personally attest to that.
Here are 25 things that are actually more fun than looking for jobs (all of which will just prove to you how completely un-fun looking for jobs is).
1. Having to gouge out your palm or into your finger to remove a splinter that’s really embedded in your skin.
2. Accidentally poking yourself in the eye or putting in your contact inside out (if you don’t wear contacts, I will just tell you that doing this hurts super badly and after you’ve put it into your eye inside out, it can be really hard to extract because your eye doesn’t want to open — this experience is one I, and others, wish to never have happen again.)
3. Getting salty chip grease in a paper-cut.
4. Buying new shoes and only noticing they rub your feet really uncomfortably after you’ve taken off the tags, worn them, and can no longer return them.
5. Getting to class late and having the professor single you out while everyone else stares at you judgmentally as you scramble to find a seat.
6. Receiving your ex’s wedding invite when you didn’t even know they were engaged.
7. Biting your tongue or cheek while chewing food.
8. Getting a bad grade on a test or quiz that you spent hours studying for or on an essay you spent a long time writing and were really proud of.
9. Speeding through a traffic light and then seeing a cop.
10. Listening to Janice from “Friends” laugh for a day straight — hell, even a week straight!
11. Burning your mouth on a hot Starbucks latte and scalding off all your taste buds.
12. Getting a charley horse in your leg or foot and not being able to move because it hurts so bad.
13. Being a third wheel on a date that’s going badly or on a date that’s going a little too well (if you know what I mean).
14. Cracking your tooth on a popcorn kernel while on a date.
15. Waiting a week until the next episode of your show airs or waiting a year until the next season is released on Netflix.
16. Watching a YouTube video on your computer or phone and having it stop randomly or tell you that you need to wait while it buffers.
17. Forgetting to bring your towel into the bathroom and remembering only after you’ve wet your hair and are thoroughly soaked (what to do, what to do …)
18. Taking a swig of milk from the carton and then noticing the expiration date has passed.
19. Burning your thighs on hot leather car seats in the summer (because who needs skin on the back of their thighs anyway?).
20. Having a friend or someone on Facebook tell you or post major spoilers about a show or episode you haven’t seen yet and completely ruin it for you.
21. Being forced to listen to Rebecca Black’s “Friday” on repeat.
22. Watching “Gigli” starring Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez or M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Last Airbender” or “Batman & Robin” starring George Clooney – AKA some of the worst movies ever made.
23. Being seated on an airplane near a bawling baby, next to someone with really bad B.O., behind someone who has their seat leaned back the entire trip, or in front of someone who keeps kicking the back of your seat.
24. Pulling your hangnail off because you don’t have a nail clipper handy and your nail then being all wonky and sharp and having it get caught on stuff like your shirt, thereby making it worse.
25. Going to the bathroom and then realizing too late that your stall has no toilet paper left in it.
Seriously, looking for jobs sucks. But while these 25 things may be more fun than looking for jobs, one thing that’s less fun than looking for and applying to positions is seeing your friends post on Facebook that they’ve gotten job offers, are starting new careers at companies, or are continuing their education at some sort of graduate school.
So even though looking for jobs is awful, stay strong and persevere — somewhere out there is a job for you and once you find it, you won’t have to look anymore!
