Dressing Like Your Favorite Celebrity On A College Budget

By Amanda Cohen on February 27, 2016

If you are reading this article, you probably have at least some interest in fashion and being a trend-setter (I know that I do). However, on a college budget, that can be extremely difficult.

Fellow fashionistas such as Taylor Swift, Gigi Hadid, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Selena Gomez, and so forth have a bank account that can easily provide them with luxurious designer clothing. I would personally love to rock Taylor Swift’s Balmain white jumpsuit that she wore strutting down the red carpet of the 2015 Billboard Music Awards, and I know that I am not the only one who feels this way.

So, where do we go from here? Well ladies, I have decided to dedicate an entire article about how to dress like our favorite celebrities without breaking our banks! Maybe if I dress like Swift or Gomez, I can take my singing abilities beyond the shower!

Since I have already brought her up, let’s talk about Taylor Swift. Whether you fancy her crop tops that show off her mid-drift, or the purses that she so delicately holds on her forearm, you cannot deny the fact that Swift has killer style.

Now, you can take two different routes when attempting to embrace your inner Taylor: (1) you can buy an exact knockoff of her thousand-dollar outfits, or (2) you can use find similar clothing to Taylor’s, just with a less expensive price tag.

Let’s use route one first; many websites like Tobi and Nasty Gal created extremely similar outfits to Taylor’s white Balmain jumpsuit. The few differences were the quality of material used, the lack of sequins, and the fact that the jumpsuit that you found online will not be custom-made to fit your figure.

If you don’t want to copy Swift’s exact look, then use route two. Even though she is insanely famous, Taylor dresses like most young women would (in terms of outfit choice, not price). She likes to show off her long legs by wearing a variety of shorts — lace, cuffed, leather, suede, etc.

I am here to tell you that you can find a variety of shorts similar to Taylor’s on websites that cater to the average young adult. Websites like Tobi, Nasty Gal, MissGuided, HelloMollyFashion, and many others are the places that you should be looking.

Also, if you want to rock the signature Taylor Swift mid-drift, there is no need to spend large sums of money on a top that does not come close to covering your entire body! Now, go fill that blank space in your closet with some Swift-inspired attire.

I don’t care if you love Kendall and Kylie Jenner, or absolutely despise them; lovers and haters alike can still all agree that they both take the word trend-setter to a whole new level.

Unless you are some sort of wonder woman, most college women do not walk in runway shows or have their own lip-stick product like these two young women. Despite these “setbacks” we can still embody classic Kendall and Kylie style — and luckily for us, the Jenner women have made it extremely easy to do so!

Dressing like a Jenner literally only takes several small steps. First, type in Pac Sun on your web browser; second, click on the tab that says “Kendall and Kylie Collection;” third, browse through the pages of clothing; forth, fill your shopping cart. You see, I told you it was easy!

The clothing is not nearly as expensive as the designer clothing that Kendall and Kylie wear, but it still embraces their individual styles.

This might be wishful thinking, but maybe if I dress like Hailey Baldwin, I can get Justin Bieber to date me too! Even if this dream doesn’t come true, I still want to dress like Baldwin considering she has amazing style.

My favorite part about Baldwin’s style is that it is extremely laid back and perfect to wear to class or to dinner with friends. Her “street style” consists of high-rise denim shorts, boyfriend jeans, solid-color long- and short-sleeve tops, and sneakers.

If you go into an Urban Outfitters store or go to their online site, you will be able to find a Hailey Baldwin-like outfit within minutes. Will our outfits include a Cartier Nail Bracelet around our left wrists? No, but that’s fine because Justin Bieber will buy me one when we start dating.

In general, if you want to steal a certain celebrity’s look, just go on Google, type in their name and outfit, and start searching. I guarantee that if you cannot find an exact knockoff (like for Taylor Swift’s jumpsuit), you will either be able to find something extremely similar or something that screams the celebrity’s name without copying his/her exact look.

In order to help you accomplish your goals, I put some websites below that all college students should have bookmarked on their computers!
