Best Summer Instagrams to Refresh Your Feed

By Max Berman on May 13, 2016

Instagram, whether you love it or hate it, has been cemented as a permanent social media platform. While many people think Instagram is just an extension of Facebook, with friends bragging about their children and who got accepted to what college, it can be a gateway into a new world of art. Some of the best artists today are showcasing their work on the unique platform, keeping thousands of followers interested with their content daily.

There’s a new era that has come about with the rise of the platform, one that allows artists to showcase their  work in a minimalistic portfolio setting, and it has totally changed the way audience and artist are able to interact.  Instead of seeing which friend blacked out last night, why not look at some incredible oil paintings or hyperrealistic drawings? So often, we don’t utilize what is right in front of us, and in this case it’s on our phones. Instead of scrolling through selfies, why not take a stroll through virtual galleries that will help ease you into summer? Below I’ve compiled some of the best summer Instagram accounts, one that will help your timeline breathe some fresh air!

 @meetkvell

This duo based out of Los Angeles is determined to bring the best content to their feed. Formerly in advertising, the two have come together to create a page which brings color, pop art, and surrealism into one neat package. Along with their own original content, they accept submissions as well and encourage their followers to use the hashtag (#meetkvell) in order to have their work become eligible for a feature. They take it one step further with their website, in which they feature artists from their favorite accounts, and have in-depth interviews as well as host previously unreleased content for these artists. Whether you’re an aficionado, or just someone who enjoys a quirky aesthetic, their instagram is sure to keep you entertained.

 @hautepunchmag

Based out of Montreal, Haute Punch is an online magazine who likes “art, photography, music, travel and fashion”. Their page primarily consists of dreamy landscapes and shadowy 35 mm photos. While they may not be as visually gripping immediately, their profile leaves you with a trace of tranquility and a sense of well-being when viewing the gallery. They have their own website as well, where they post more of who inspires their work, and encourage artists and enthusiasts to submit their own work.

@tonyfutura

Hailing from Berlin, Tony is one of the original “Instagram Artists” who broke onto the scene quickly and gained over 90,000 followers in under a year. Unlike other accounts, Tony posts strictly his own work, which include vast collaborations with other artists and galleries. Recently nominated to be the Tribeca Film Artist Speaker, Tony continues to entertain his digital audience with his various depictions of Kim Kardashian, as well as his other political and social commentary. With a great sense of humor and captivating colors, he manages to draw in viewers time and time again, and is a great account to get a dose of humor while de-stressing this summer.

 @taxcollection

This art collective is run by a Miami Based duo, and is one of the fastest growing art curation accounts on Instagram. With nearly 200,000 followers in under a year, this page varies wildly with the content they post, sometimes beautiful and sometimes sickly and disturbing. They accept submissions from artists of any medium, and encourage their followers to tag them as well as use the hashtag (#thetaxcollection) in order to have their works become eligible for a feature on their instagram page. Working with artists such as Cage the Elephant and Guy Hepner, they’re an account to watch as their growth continues.

 @meatwreck

The best artists come from Los Angeles, and this duo is no exception. Posting strictly their own content, this pair has come up with some of the most disturbing work on the internet. Whether it’s a photograph of a dead fish in someone’s pocket, or nails in someone’s work shoes, their photographs make you cringe in an amazing way. Updating daily, they’re always surprising their audience with what they’ll come up next with visually.

 @aww.sam

This account is led by one amazing woman, someone who is dedicated to food and its beauty. She utilizes pastries and pop art to make a statement about her page, making amazing rainbow bagels and mouth-watering tye-dye cake and even includes instructions on her website on how to make her creations!
