Here are the big stories to keep an eye on as you head into the weekend:

Senator Al Franken, Democrat of Minnesota, announced yesterday he would resign amid allegations of sexual misconduct. A short time later, Trent Franks, a House Republican from Arizona, also resigned, becoming the third member of Congress (John Conyers, a Democrat from Michigan, quit on Tuesday) this week to step down.

Wildfires in California continue to burn, marking the fifth day that blazes have forced evacuations in the southern part of the state. Over 190,000 people have been forced to leave their homes as the fires approached.

“Violence has flared between Israeli forces and Palestinians protesting at Donald Trump’s contentious recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital,” according to a report from the BBC, which has been monitoring the situation.

A winter storm — which surprised some parts of Texas with snow this morning — is heading for the Northeast and could bring as much as a foot of snow to some areas.

ABC News reports that “a storm system is developing in the Gulf Coast on Friday morning, and is expected to track northeast into Georgia and the Carolinas by Friday night. A swath of accumulating snow is expected from Louisiana to Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and the Carolinas.”

Saturday should see flakes falling from Virginia to New York and by Sunday, the storm will be in the Boston area. And, no were not into that whole naming winter storms thing.
