Here are 3 fun and free things to do in Houston. This city has so much culture and life that you can explore for free! You don’t need to waste a lot of money to get an awesome experience (and Instagram picture), just get some friends together and head to these places for a good time.

The Menil Collection is a hub for artistic expression in Houston. Solange, even debuted two of her own performances at Menil. They also host constant events where art lovers can build relationships!

The museum consists of rooms, each with a different collection. Explore the arts of the Americas, Pacific Northwest, Ancient World, Pacific Islands and Africa, as well as Medieval, Byzantine, Contemporary, Drawings, and two Surrealist collections. Check out the park and the Rothko Chapel across the street, to really enjoy how peaceful and serene this little nook in Houston is.

NEIL’S BAR  | 2006 Walker St, 77003

Neil’s bar is a cool late-night hang-out for anyone of age. They have a free arcade, a comic book selection, board games and video game tournaments. Their bar has such a cozy feel, and the drink specials are the best!

Find the nerd in you, by playing some games and talking to the very knowledgeable bartenders. This local hole-in-the-wall offer movie nights, where they actually turn off the lights and people all watch the movie together. Whether you sing karaoke, play ping pong, or the Nintendo you will feel like a kid again! This judgment-free zone is a must-go spot for any of age student in Houston.

This 443-acre park allows you to hide from the city for a while, and enjoy the peace that nature brings. One of the best-hidden gems in Hermann Park is McGovern Centennial Gardens, where there is a large community garden and a zen-like garden where people are always seen relaxing. Walk up to the top of the hill for some cool views and an Instagram-worthy picture.

The Miller Outdoor Theatre is close by and a great place to catch a free movie with friends. They always make sure to offer a variety of movies, like Toy Story, Top Gun, and Black Panther.

Don’t forget to wander through the Japanese Garden, because it will make you feel like you’ve traveled to a different world! While you’re at it go explore the reflection pool and McGovern lake nearby, maybe you’ll even go on the paddle boat. Hermann Park provides Houstonians with so many fun and free activities, so go get some fresh air and forget about the terrible city traffic for a while.
