Creative Ways To Show Employee Appreciation

By Ashley Paskill on January 31, 2020

As an employer, you rely on your employees to help your business grow, no matter what kind of business you own. It is important that you show them how much you appreciate them. However, it is natural for you to want to do so in a unique and creative way to help show that you are willing to put in the effort to show your appreciation. Luckily, there are several different ways that will show your appreciation in a way that your employees will remember.

Throw a party

While this is a popular thing to do around the holidays to show your appreciation, you can throw a party or celebration after your employees accomplish a huge goal, task, or achievement. If your employees work during normal business hours, you can host the party after hours and have family members of your employees come. If your employees tend to work odd hours, pick a time where you can either close early or have the most employees present. At the celebration, highlight what the employees have accomplished.

Recognition of accomplishments

Employees who feel recognized for their efforts will continue to work hard, and other employees will work hard to receive recognition. This recognition can come in the form of an award such as employee of the month, a bonus or gift card, or a department party can help show your appreciation for the efforts of your employee. While not every single accomplishment needs to be rewarded, even just showing that you acknowledge the accomplishment can go a long way.

Charitable donation

Your employees are likely looking for ways to give back to their favorite charities or causes. One way to show your appreciation and to recognize your employees’ accomplishments is to donate to a charity that is meaningful to the employee you are looking to recognize. Be cautious not to donate to causes or organizations that are too controversial and donate to something that aligns with your company’s values. However, if you hold a competition among your employees with the reward being a charitable donation, they will be motivated to win and accomplish what is needed in order to help out a cause they care about.

Positive comments

While you may not want to offer a bonus or party for each individual accomplishment that your employees achieve, it may not be in your company’s budget to do so. However, verbally acknowledging the accomplishment, whether in a public or private way, can ensure that your employees know that they are appreciated and that their efforts are not lost on you. Even if you do plan on giving a larger form of recognition, a positive comment can be instant while you wait for the larger reward to occur. Not only will this help your employees feel appreciated, but it will help your relationship with them be stronger and better because they see you as someone who values them.

Wall of Appreciation

Create either a bulletin board or a side of a wall to share notes of appreciation from you, members of your team, and positive comments you may receive from customers. Have pieces of paper available so that team members can write positive notes to coworkers about how much they are appreciated and what they bring to the team. The notes can be signed or the writers can remain anonymous. These notes are a public display of appreciation of your team. Make sure your employees are all appreciated by writing notes for each person.

Lottery tickets

Lottery tickets are a fun and pulse-racing way to show your appreciation, even if none of the tickets are winners. Playing together with your employees can be a fun way to bond. In many cases, scratch-off lottery tickets are inexpensive. If someone wins, it is a great moment to celebrate. If not, your employees will still appreciate the sentiment. You never know what may happen, so it is worth trying, especially if there is a possibility of your employees winning big.

Flexible schedules

While work is a major part of a person’s life, it is not the only aspect of it. Your employees have hobbies, families, friends, and other commitments outside of work. Your employees may also be undergoing some difficult times with family members or their own health. By allowing your employees to be flexible in their schedules, they will be more likely to work even harder. Keep in mind that as long as the work gets done, it is okay. If this means allowing your team members to work from home when needed, let it. This will inspire your employees to know that they are appreciated and can be trusted.

Showing employees that you appreciate them can help increase productivity and workplace morale. While showing this appreciation can be shown in the usual ways, it is also fun to be creative in expressing how much your employees mean to you.
